Little Wood Headwaters Ranch

Just to the east of Sun Valley and the fabled Wood River Valley you’ll find the 3,060-acre Little Wood Headwaters Ranch. Nestled at the top of the Little Wood River Valley adjacent to hundreds of thousands of acres of wilderness quality public lands, the ranch itself is a virtual wilderness preserve but is just 30-40 minutes from Sun Valley and all of the amenities it has to offer.

The ranch includes miles of riparian habitat, streams and beaver ponds interspersed with rock outcrops, peaks and valleys that offer seemingly endless recreational opportunities. Elk, deer and many upland birds call the ranch home, as do numerous trout that inhabit the small streams. The ranch is nearly surrounded by public land, including a wilderness study area to the north and BLM lands to the east and west. The ranch’s nearly five square miles has unparalleled access to the region’s vast public lands, private small stream trout fishing on the ranch and high quality river fishing on the immediately adjacent public land.

In 2008 and 2009, numerous improvements were completed on the ranch. A new entry road and bridge over Baugh Creek now provide access to the heart of the ranch. From there, improved roads extend up both Baugh and Hailey Creeks while a new road rises to the east climbing up to overlook the Little Wood River. Additional trails that have been improved on the property, making the best parts of the ranch accessible while maintaining its wilderness qualities.

The Nature Conservancy holds a conservation easement protecting most of the ranch, its views and all of its wild inhabitants while retaining ample flexibility for future owners to build their own dream getaway(s) and, should they wish, to split the property.
